Historic first for Dolphins Women’s Academy

History made in Dolphins colours.

The Dolphins Women’s Academy took an important first step in the club’s growing female pathway, taking to the field for the first time against the Warriors Academy at Logan on Saturday, September 12.

It marked the first time a Dolphins women’s side has played under the club’s banner, with the historic occasion made even sweeter by a 32–20 victory.

Played across four 15-minute quarters with no goal kicking, the Dolphins crossed for eight tries to the Warriors’ five.

Natalia Starzynski, Paradize Tuua and Harmony Hudson each scored doubles, while Chanel Savea and Ky’mani Tila also crossed for tries in the landmark win.

The match was another significant step in the development of the Dolphins’ women’s pathway as the club continues to build a strong system for the next generation of female rugby league players.

The Academy squad has spent recent months training together, developing their game through field sessions, gym work and dedicated development programs.

Leading the program is three-time premiership winner and  Meg Ward, who has brought her experience to the Dolphins as the club continues to strengthen its women’s pathway.

For Ward, seeing a women’s team run onto the field wearing the Dolphins emblem for the first time was a proud moment.

Ahead of the game, Ward encouraged the players to embrace the occasion, enjoy the experience and take pride in representing the club.

For the Dolphins, the match represented much more than a result.

It was the first time the Women’s Academy had taken the field in Dolphins colours and an important first step towards building the club’s future in the women’s game.

With the Warriors NRLW side completing their captain’s run prior to the Academy clash, the day also gave the Dolphins players an opportunity to experience the environment surrounding the elite level of the women’s game.

The first game is now in the books and the Dolphins’ women’s pathway is officially underway.
