Central Queensland Rugby league fans are set for a major sporting highlight, with the NRL Dolphins confirmed to face the Central Queensland Capras in a blockbuster pre-season trial match at Marley Brown Oval Gladstone, Saturday February 7, 2026.
The match will again bring elite NRL talent to the Gladstone region, providing fans with a rare opportunity to see one of the NRL’s newest clubs up close against Central Queensland’s premier Hostplus Cup side.
The game forms part of the Dolphins’ 2026 NRL pre-season preparations and reinforces the club’s commitment to Central Queensland, while also showcasing the strength, depth and pathway opportunities through the Central Queensland Capras.
Gladstone Regional Mayor Matt Burnett said Gladstone is proud to hold a special piece in Dolphins’ history as the location of the side’s first NRL trail match.
“It’s fantastic to see our region’s affiliation with the Dolphins grow since history was made at Marley Brown Oval on 4 February 2023,” Mayor Burnett said.
“The rise of the Dolphins has been fascinating to watch as they grow their fanbase up the Queensland coast, interstate and beyond.
“I hope this match sets both the Dolphins and Capras up for success in 2026.
“I’m also looking forward to seeing players from both sides get involved with the community, particularly our juniors, during their time in Gladstone.”
The fixture is expected to attract a strong attendance from across the region, delivering economic and tourism benefits to Gladstone through increased visitation, accommodation bookings and local spending.
Dolphins CEO Terry Reader welcomed the opportunity to again play in Central Queensland.
“The Dolphins are really excited to play in Gladstone again as the Central Queensland Region is very important to us. Our continued investment in the region is about to enter another year, and we truly appreciate the strong support we receive from the Central Queensland community, and our corporate partners.”
In addition to the on-field action, the match will be supported by community engagement activities, including junior clinics, school visits and opportunities for local clubs to engage with NRL players and coaching staff in the lead-up to the game.
Central Queensland Capras CEO Peter White said the event was a significant moment for the region.
“Thanks to Gladstone Regional Council and the Dolphins, this fantastic opportunity has again been presented for Gladstone and the wider Central Queensland community. It will be a fantastic experience for our communities as they experience a topline game of Rugby League as well as other exciting supporting games. Central Queensland represent one of the strongest rugby league catchments in the state, and matches like this highlight the pathway from grassroots to the NRL.”
