Bromwich calls time on his NRL career

A second Dolphins foundation legend has called time on his career with Kenny Bromwich announcing his retirement from the NRL.

Bromwich was one of the first Dolphins signings ahead of their inaugural season alongside Storm teammates Felise Kaufusi and brother Jesse.

A veteran forward with premiership and International experience, Bromwich immediately stepped into a leadership role, setting standards on and off the field. His decision to take a chance on a rising club spoke volumes about his character and his belief in the Dolphins before a ball had been kicked, laid the foundations for a culture that will endure long into the future.

Bromwich was a key part of the Dolphins leadership team from day one and proudly ran out in the Dolphins’ first-ever NRL match, forever etching his name as Dolphin #12 in the history books.

After making his debut for the Melbourne Storm in 2013, Bromwich will finish his career with 260 NRL appearances including 44 for the Dolphin. Across a decade in purple, he built a reputation as one of the game’s most reliable back-rowers, playing alongside his brother Jesse and helping guide the Storm to premiership glory in 2017 and 2020.

After his time in Melbourne, Bromwich signed with the Dolphins as one of their foundation players, again linking up with his brother to help establish the NRL’s newest club.

On the representative stage, Bromwich has been a proud New Zealand international with 15 Kiwis caps, as well as making four appearances for the Māori All Stars.

Since joining the Dolphins, Bromwich has been a steadying presence in the forward pack and a mentor to younger players, continuing to embody professionalism and consistency every time he pulled on the jersey.

Kenny Bromwich

  • Melbourne Storm 2013-22, 216 games, Premiers 2017, 2020
  • Dolphins 2023-25, 44 games
  • New Zealand 2016-19, 2022, 15 Tests
  • Maori All Stars 2020, 2022, 4 appearances

The news comes after fellow veteran Mark Nicholls announced his retirement earlier in the week.

Their impact will be remembered not only in the matches they played, but in the culture and standards they helped establish as foundation leaders.

The pair were among the people who built the club; senior leaders who helped establish what it means to be a Dolphin. They set the standard for professionalism, resilience and humility, leaving behind a culture that will guide the next generation of players.

Kenny Bromwich and Mark Nicholls leave a legacy that goes far beyond the games they played. They will always be remembered as foundation players, leaders, and role models who shaped the very identity of the Dolphins.
