Injury Update: Gilbert's season may not be over

Dolphins’ captain Tom Gilbert’s 2025 season may not be over.

Gilbert suffered a ruptured pectoral muscle in the match against the Warriors on Saturday.

He will undergo surgery to repair the muscle tomorrow, with a recovery timeline of approximately 12 weeks.

With the NRL set to play round 12 this weekend, that means Gilbert could be back as early as round 24 in mid-August.

It would give him the opportunity to be part of the Dolphins’ last few games as they chase an historic first finals appearance.

It is positive news for the 25-year-old, who missed all of 2024 with a knee reconstruction and a large portion of 2023 with a shoulder injury.

Dolphins’ Head of Performance Jeremy Hickmans said the news was welcome.

“These type of rehabilitations always have some variables but if Tom was able to come back somewhere around that 12-week time frame he would certainly be in line to play some games at the back end of the season,” said Hickmans.

“In previous seasons he has shown how diligent he is with his rehabilitation and that will also be a factor.”
