England captain George Williams to join the Dolphins in 2027

The Dolphins have landed a major international coup for 2027 securing England captain and international five-eighth George Williams on a two-year deal.

Widely regarded as one of the premier playmakers in the international game, Williams brings more than a decade of elite experience, leadership and a world-class kicking game as the Dolphins continue to strengthen their spine.

The 31-year-old has played over 350 first grade matches across the NRL and Super League, starring for the Canberra Raiders and Warrington Wolves, while becoming a mainstay of the England national side since making his Test debut in 2015. Appointed England captain in 2023, Williams has cemented his reputation as one of rugby league’s most influential competitors.

Williams will join the Dolphins on a two-year contract, bolstering a strong halves contingent alongside Tongan international Isaiya Katoa and Brad Schneider.

He will also reunite with fellow England representatives Herbie Farnworth and Morgan Knowles, having previously played alongside them on the international stage.

But first, Williams will go head-to-head with his future Head Coach Kristian Woolf when England takes on Tonga in a blockbuster Rugby League World Cup clash, before the pair join forces at the Dolphins in 2027.

Dolphins Chief Executive Officer Terry Reader said the signing represented another significant step forward for the club.

“George is one of the most accomplished halves in the game and to have someone of his experience and leadership joining the Dolphins is a huge boost for our squad,” Reader said.

“He has performed at the highest level in both the NRL and Super League and has proven himself as a leader on the international stage with England.

“George brings a strong kicking game, competitiveness and a wealth of experience that will complement the players we already have within our spine.

“We’re really excited about the opportunity to bring George to the Dolphins and to see what he can add alongside Isaiya, Brad and the rest of our squad from 2027.”
