NRLQ 21s Match Report: Dolphins defeat Cowboys to strengthen grip on top spot

The Dolphins NRLQ 21s have strengthened their hold on top of the ladder with a convincing 20-4 victory over the Cowboys in a top-of-the-table clash.

The win sees the Dolphins move three competition points clear of the Cowboys with just two rounds remaining in the regular season.

The Dolphins made the perfect start, with Cody Starr crossing in the seventh minute to hand the Dolphins an early lead. The Cowboys responded before the break, but the Dolphins held a narrow 6-4 advantage at half-time.

The second half belonged to the Dolphins.

Kilarney Lavender produced a standout performance in the centres, breaking the game open with a brilliant individual try in the 51st minute to extend the lead.

Halfback Toby Batten then finished off a slick attacking movement in the 67th minute, diving over in the right corner to put the result beyond doubt.

Just two minutes later, Lavender completed his double, crossing again in the 69th minute as the Dolphins continued to dominate.

The halves pairing controlled the contest superbly, directing the attack with composure while repeatedly turning the Cowboys' defence around with their kicking game. Defensively, the Dolphins were equally impressive, refusing to give the Cowboys any momentum and closing out a dominant 20-4 victory.

The result reinforces the Dolphins' premiership credentials as they head into the final two rounds of the regular season sitting alone at the top of the ladder.

The Dolphins will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Cbus Super Stadium to take on the Titans, looking to continue their momentum and further strengthen their position at the top of the NRLQ 21s ladder.
