International rugby league awaits the Dolphins Academy, with the Club’s emerging talent set to test themselves against the Fijian Kaiviti Silktails on a landmark tour of Fiji.
The tour marks another significant step in the continued growth of the Dolphins pathways program, providing players with a unique opportunity to experience the demands of professional rugby league while representing the Club on the international stage.
Designed to mirror the standards and routines of the Dolphins NRL program, the tour will expose the U17 Academy squad to the realities of travelling as elite athletes while strengthening the Club’s connection with rugby league communities across the Pacific.
Head of Academy Matt Hartigan said the tour reflects the Academy’s commitment to developing players both on and off the field.
“Since day one, our Academy’s drive has been to be individualised and innovative. We are always looking to offer experiences that prepare our athletes for the NRL. By taking this squad to Fiji under the exact same structures and timings as our NRL team, we are exposing them to the reality of professional touring.”
Beyond the football field, the trip will also focus on giving back to the local community and supporting the continued growth of rugby league in Fiji.
“This tour provides a great chance to build on the work of our game development team and help grow the game of Rugby League in Fiji. We want our players to understand the importance of giving back, and taking the game to communities like Lautoka is a big part of that education.”
The tour also carries special significance for Academy player Eli Rauluni, who will have the opportunity to reconnect with his Fijian heritage while representing the Dolphins.
“Having Eli Rauluni in the squad makes this a truly special trip. Eli is of Fijian descent, and to be able to connect him with his heritage through rugby league is a proud moment for our Academy. It’s a reminder that we aren’t just developing footballers; we are helping young men connect with who they are.”
The Dolphins Academy will depart for Fiji on Monday, 21 September, beginning the tour with a traditional Fijian cultural welcome ceremony that evening.
On Tuesday, the squad will complete its Captain’s Run at Churchill Park in Lautoka ahead of Wednesday’s clash against the Fijian Kaiviti Silktails.
The tour fixture will be played at Churchill Park on Wednesday, 23 September, providing the Academy squad with valuable international match experience while showcasing the next generation of Dolphins talent.
The tour represents another exciting milestone for the Dolphins Academy as it continues to provide innovative experiences that prepare the Club’s future stars for the next level, while strengthening the Dolphins’ presence and impact across the Pacific.
