Cobbo to join Dolphins for 2026

Queensland Origin and Test player Selwyn Cobbo will add even more firepower to the Dolphins’ backline after agreeing to a one-year deal for NRL season 2026.

Cobbo has agreed to terms on the contract that allows him to stay in Brisbane and will complement the Dolphins’ already potent backline under Head Coach Kristian Woolf.
The move is a good fit for Cobbo, who hails from Cherbourg just a couple of hours from the Dolphins’ base north of Brisbane.

Cobbo can play anywhere in the outside backs, and his Origin pedigree will only strengthen a Dolphins’ back five that includes players of the calibre of English international Herbie Farnworth, Kangaroo Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Kiwi Test player Jamayne Isaako, Jake Averillo and Jack Bostock.

This group is led by two Test-experienced halves in Kiwi international Kodi Nikorima and young Tongan number seven Isaiya Katoa.

Dolphins’ CEO Terry Reader said the Dolphins are well aware of what Cobbo would bring to the squad.

“The Dolphins have always said we are about continuing to build a roster that will make us one of the top teams in the NRL,” said Reader.

“Selwyn is an accomplished player who has done some amazing things at both Origin and NRL level already.

“But we believe he has untapped potential to go to even greater heights in our game and are excited about what he can do in a Dolphins jersey.”

Cobbo has already played six Origin games for Queensland in addition to his 80 NRL matches for the Broncos.

The 23-year-old made his Test debut for Australia against Samoa in 2023 and has also represented the Prime Minister’s XIII team against Papua New Guinea as well as the Indigenous All Stars team twice.

He will join the Dolphins when pre-season training for 2026 begins in November this year.
