Injury Update: Gilbert, Saifiti gone for season; Plath awaits fate

Injuries continue to test the Dolphins’ depth after the confirmation that Max Plath has a serious knee injury.

It comes with the news that both Tom Gilbert and Daniel Saifiti will be out for the season with shoulder injuries.

Plath came from the field in Friday’s 56-6 win over the Dragons and scans have shown some damage. The exact course of rehabilitation and/or surgery will be known when he visits a specialist next week.

Saifiti will undergo surgery on Wednesday on the shoulder he hurt in round eight against Canberra, after the injury failed to improve with rehabilitation.

Gilbert has had his pectoral tear operated on. During that operation medical staff also found a labrum tear in his shoulder that was subsequently repaired.

However the extended shoulder rehab period required for Gilbert means now he will not be able to return late in this year, as was first hoped.

Saifiti and Gilbert should both be ready for full training during the 2026 pre-season.

Thomas Flegler also continues his rehabilitation from a long-term shoulder injury. He has not played since round five of last season.
