Kaufusi optimistic in push for finals

Dolphins veteran forward Felise Kaufusi remains optimistic about the team's chances of making the top eight, despite acknowledging that the task ahead is a challenging yet straightforward one.

The equation is not hard; we just need to win.

With only seven competition points separating fifth place from thirteenth, Kaufusi is well aware of what it takes for the Dolphins to secure a finals spot, having made fifteen finals appearances throughout his career. "Winning solves everything, and we go again this weekend," stated a quietly confident Kaufusi.

Addressing the Dolphins' recent form, particularly their narrow losses against top-ranked teams, Kaufusi emphasised that the team is learning from these defeats. With five games remaining in the season, attitudes remain positive, and there is a strong "never give up" approach within the squad.

Kaufusi: We're still in the hunt

When questioned about the impact of injuries on the team, Kaufusi admitted that losing key players like Tom Gilbert and Thomas Flegler for the season, along with extended injuries to players like Herbie Farnworth, has been significant. However, he sees a silver lining in the increased game time for younger players. He highlighted the emergence of Max Plath and his valuable contributions to the team across multiple positions, with Plath currently covering for injured hooker, Jeremy Marshall-King.

Kaufusi also acknowledged the impending retirement of long-term teammate and Dolphins captain, Jesse Bromwich. He admitted that sending the decorated captain out with one final postseason run is a motivating factor for the NRL's newest side as they chase their maiden finals berth.

We’re playing for the big fella. He’s been awesome for the Dolphins; he’s our skipper, and that’s who we look up to.

Despite the challenge facing the Dolphins, Kaufusi believes the team is ready and up to the task. The squad's confidence and determination to overcome their recent run of form and push for a spot in the top eight highlights their resilience and learnings from their recent games.

This weekend’s game against the Warriors provides the Dolphins with the perfect stepping stone to solidifying their path to achieving this goal.
