Roberts earns Junior Blues call up

Young Dolphins’ Michael Roberts signing has been earmarked for a big career after being named in Brad Fittler’s Junior Blues squad.

Roberts was an early signature for the Dolphins, who recruited him after watching him play for renowned schoolboy nursery Palm Beach-Currumbin High School.

He went on to be picked for the Australian Schoolboys team and is already training in Dolphins colours at the club’s Redcliffe home base.

However now he will spend a weekend under the tutelage of NSW coach Fittler after being identified as a future State of Origin candidate.

Roberts will join 40 players from across NSW in a camp that will include coaching from the likes of Blues’ assistant Paul McGregor and former NSW captain Boyd Cordner.

Dolphins’ chief executive Terry Reader said Roberts had the ability to perform at the highest level.

“We are very excited about the talent that Michael has and his opportunity to excel in the future,” said Reader.

“He is a great example of some of the good signings we have made for the years ahead that have received little or no mention – guys like Tom Gilbert, Isaiya Katoa, Harrison Graham, Mason Teague and Jack Bostock.

“We have always had a focus on building for a long and successful future – not just season 2023.”
