The Battle for Brisbane

The date for the first ‘Battle For Brisbane’ has been released and the Dolphins and the Broncos are set to collide.

The Dolphins will host the Broncos in a historic blockbuster at Suncorp Stadium on Friday, March 24 at 7.05pm (Qld time).

The match will feature the two rugby league tenants of the famous ground meeting for the first time in an NRL match.

It is expected this momentous occasion will be the start of a tradition that will become one of the biggest derby matches in the NRL, joining events of the magnitude of the Broncos-Cowboys clashes, the Roosters-Rabbitohs rivalry and the Dragons-Roosters Anzac Day event.

“This is truly going to be a historic day for rugby league in Queensland,” said Dolphins’ chief executive Terry Reader.

“As our coach Wayne Bennett has said, this rivalry has the opportunity to be as big as some of the other great same-city rivalries across the world.

“The Manchester derby between Manchester United and Manchester City springs to mind.

The city of Brisbane will come together at Suncorp Stadium to create an atmosphere that our members and fans will remember and talk about for years to come.

The game will be like a main course for Dolphins’ fans, who will have had time to warm up for the event with two previous home matches.

New Dolphins ready to experience Battle for Brisbane

After the Dolphins’ opening-round blockbuster against the Roosters at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday afternoon on March 5, the club’s spiritual home at Redcliffe will host the Raiders on Saturday March 11 at 3pm.
